Handlingen foregår i Nord-Norge i nær framtid.

Voice actor Viena Peltoperä Østvang also performs the film’s song “Noras sang” (“Nora’s Song”) with Manne.

”NORA’S ARK” TO PREMIER AT TROMSØ INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

In Endre Lund Eriksen’s new short film Nora’s Ark, 10‑year‑old Nora must defy both extreme weather and her own father to save her best friend – Billy the beetle. The film will premiere at the Tromsø International Film Festival (TIFF) January 19–25 and is nominated for the Tromsø Palm.

Serious themes such as climate change, insect decline, and biodiversity form the backdrop of the 20‑minute short film, which tells the adventurous story of how Nora must challenge the weather, the changing climate, and her own dad in order to save Billy and other insects.

A Climate Story Seen Through a Child’s Eyes

The story takes place in Northern Norway in the near future. Nora’s best friend is Billy the beetle. When climate change causes a major flood and her father fills his boat with animals, Nora launches her own rescue mission: she wants to save all the insects. But her dad dislikes these creepy little critters and says no. So Nora prepares her own boat, Nora’s Ark. This sparks a deep conflict between father and daughter—one that threatens not only their relationship, but also the fragile ecosystem aboard Nora’s Ark.

Creative Team

The film is produced by the Tromsø‑based company Fabelfjord in collaboration with Damm It in Croatia, as with Endre Lund Eriksen’s previous short film Home Office (2023). Home Office screened at festivals worldwide and won numerous awards.

Isak Gjertsen is the film’s co‑director and head of animation. In Nora’s Ark, Gjertsen has further developed the digital cut‑out technique that earned him a Swedish Guldbagge for Metropia.

Dutch artist Linde Faas is the film’s art director and also illustrated the book based on the film, written by Endre Lund Eriksen. The book received strong reviews when it was published in autumn 2025 and has been sold to the Netherlands.

The music is composed by Herman Rundberg (Manne), and the film’s end‑credit song, Nora’s Song, will be released simultaneously with the TIFF premiere (see link below). Fifteen‑year‑old Viena Peltoperä Østvang voices Nora in the film and performs the song.

Award Nomination

Nora’s Ark is screened in the competition program Films From the North and is therefore nominated for the Tromsø Palm. The film will also have a special outdoor screening at TIFF’s open‑air cinema on January 19—aimed at the film’s most important audience: children.
The week after the festival, Endre Lund Eriksen will tour with the film and the book as part of Den kulturelle skolesekken, which has booked the film for several tour weeks across the country.

The film is in Norwegian, and will also be available with English and Croatian dialogue.

Nora’s Ark is funded with support from the Norwegian Film Institute, Arctic Film Norway, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), the Audio and Visual Fund, and Samfunnsløftet SpareBank 1 Nord‑Norge.

TIFF Screening Times

  • Monday, January 19 at 09:15 – Outdoor cinema at the town square, with primary school pupils. Official opening of the outdoor cinema.

The professional jury says in it’s statement (our translation from Norwegian):

“The award for best short film goes to a film that in an original way depicts a reality that will unfortunately be recognizable to many. During the pandemic, many children experienced difficult days at home with their parents, and "Home Office" by Endre Lund Eriksen tells the story of young Lilly and her alcoholic mother without pointing fingers, but with great humanity. Beautiful animation makes the theme easier to convey and the pain is lifted to an almost poetic dimension. Our hope is that this painful, warm and important film will reach a wide audience, both young and old.”

The prize also shortlists the film for the Norwegian film award the Amanda Prize.

Many thanks to the jury - and to all of the team that made this film into something that we are really proud of!

The jury statement in Norwegian:

New film about bears

Fabelfjord is proud to present our new commisioned film about brownbears.

Besøkssenter Rovdyr (that is Visiting Centres for Predators) wanted us to make a funny and somewhat different information film about brownbears. The film will be used as a teaser for kids before visiting the Visiting Centres, where they learn about the four big predators in Norwegian nature: brownbear, wolf, wolverine and lynx.

We decided to focus on myths about bears and made it in to a parody of sensational YouTube channels about wild animal life. We are allready developing the nex tfilm in the series, that will be produced next year.

The film is directed by Endre Skandfer. Animation by Anne Kristin Berge and Christina Nerland. Music and sound design by Andreas Wangsbro.

More financing confirmed for "Nora's Ark"

Nordnorsk Filmsenter supports the animated short “Nora’s Ark”.

The film is a modern Noah’s Ark story where climate change is causing the flood that Noah must sav the animals from. His daughter Nora wants to bring all her small insect friends, but Noah doesn’t want such “pests” onboard his ship. This starts a deep conflict between father and daughter and threatens not only their relationship, but also the small eco-system they are trying to create.

Nordnorsk Filmsenter’s consultant Anna Svensson has decided to support the production with NOK 520 00 kroner and gives the film and production praise in her press release.

Norwegian Film Institute announced it’s support for the film last December.

The film will be director Endre Lund Eriksen’s first animated short film. Linde Faas is the art director.

New documentary with animated scenes

Fabelfjord has developed the animations for the new documentary series “Dyrevenn”, now screening at NRK TV and NRK Super.

The documentary series is directed by Fabelfjord’s Endre Lund Eriksen and tell stories about warm and strong friendships between children and their animals. The episodes combine new footage with personal photos, mobile phone videos, reconstructed scenes - and some animated scenes, trying to see the story from the point of view of the animals.

Fabelfjord developed the animated parts of the series, bringing together a team consisting of designer Bård Sletvold Torkildsen and animator Isak Gjertsen. Isak single handedly did the animatics, rigged and animated all characters and composited it all together in the end. Director Endre scripted, directed and supervised.

In addtion to the animated scens, Thomas Berg from Hai Five did the graphics and put together the opening title, consisting of animations from the episodes.

Andreas Wangsbro did the sound design for the animations and made the title music.

The series is produced by NRK Nord in Tromsø for NRK Super.
